Ergonomic
Solutions
Ergonomics is the science of fitting the job to the person, instead of making
the person adapt to the job. The word "ergonomics" is
derived from two Greek words, "ergo" meaning "work" or "task" and "nomos" meaning "natural
laws."
In a society increasingly encouraging holistic health, it is important to think
innovatively about the work environment and the factors that influence wellbeing.
Ergonomics takes into consideration a wide variety of disciplines including anatomy,
physiology, biomechanics, psychology, design and information technology, to make
healthy potentially life changing adjustments to work and leisure activities
to best fit the person carrying out the task. This improves physical and mental
wellbeing, safety, productivity, morale and efficiency.
The study of Ergonomics
highlights that people and the given tasks in a work situation do not function
in isolation and that the process is the key to the success of the operation.
